Hello, friends! Today I am coming to you with an easy DIY project that is perfect for your room, dorm, office, whatever you’d like! The idea for this DIY first came to me when my sweet roommate surprised me with a wooden “L” covered in flowers for my birthday. I loved this gift so much that I had to recreate it! All it takes is a quick trip to the craft store, a bit of creativity, and some gluing, and you’re left with a cute room decoration that’s personalized and really brightens up your space.
Monogram letter: I got mine from AC Moore for a few dollars. This one is pre-painted black and made out of wood, which makes it an awesome base for decoration)
Fake flowers: I also purchased these flowers from AC Moore. Browse through the fake flower section and have fun mixing and matching different colors and flowers! For my friend’s floral monogram, I definitely wanted to use sunflowers. I added in some purple flowers to contrast against the yellow and white to tie it all together.
Wood Glue: Super glue works as well. This is what you’re going to use to attach your fake flowers to the monogram.
- To make this decoration, start by cutting the heads off of the flower stems. This may sound kind of morbid, but go guillotine on these flower heads! Start with a few flowers at first, so you can gauge how much you’ll need.
- After you cut your flowers, it’s time to get creative. Arrange your flowers on the monogram until you’re satisfied with how it works. This took me a good fifteen minutes to get it perfect, but I was super happy with the arrangement at the end. The key to arranging these flowers is to have just enough space left under so you can see the letter peeking through.
- Once you have your flowers arranged, start gluing them on the monogram! I used just a bit of wood glue to attach the flower heads. The glue I used took a while to dry, so make sure the letter is laying flat across the floor so the flowers aren’t slipping and sliding. The flowers were pretty secure after about an hour, but I would let it dry overnight to ensure it’s completely dry.
Once you’re done, you’re free to put your interior designer cap on. This monogram would look especially great on the wall, on a bookshelf, or a desk. Your space will instantly brighten up.
I had a lot of fun creating this floral monogram, because it’s cheap, easy, and you’re left with a beautiful room decoration. I highly encourage you guys to try this out! It makes a great gift, especially for someone going to college. I personally received this as a gift and absolutely love it.
