Governor’s School Update

Hello, friends! As some of you guys know, I have been at Governor’s School for the past couple of days and I absolutely love it. Governor’s School is a program that I applied for that allows me to live on a college campus for five weeks and learn about my “major” (theatre), along with other subjects, like philosophy.

I have been here for about four days, and it feels like it’s been weeks. The days seem really long here, but not in a bad way. There’s so much that goes on in a day, it seems like they’re 60 hours long. We do a lot of physical activities in theatre, which I was not expecting at all. Over the past week, I have jumped, crawled, and danced all over the theatre space in an activity called “view points”. I have also choreographed chair duets and scenes with people in my class. In addition to working with movement, the theatre class of 16 has visited art museums and interpreted different works. I really love this class and enjoy doing something new everyday. I also enjoy the people that I’m working with. The class is really small, so I feel like I’m tight with everyone in the class.

One of my favorite things about Governor’s School is the opportunity to meet new people. There is no shame in going into lunch and sitting down to the first person you see. That’s how a lot of people have been making friends, and it’s great, because everyone here is friendly. I have talked to people in many different subject areas, and it’s interesting to meet people from all walks of life. I’ve especially enjoyed bonding with my roommate and my suite mates. There’s really no choice to bond, considering that we all share a bathroom. I have really enjoyed eating breakfast with them every morning, having dance parties, and movie nights with these awesome people.

All in all, I have been loving my experience here, and I feel very fortunate to be here with so many different “lifelong learners”.

Shout Out To Ingrid Nilsen

Hello, friends! Recently, one of my favorite YouTubers, Ingrid Nilsen, shared something very personal with her viewers. This “something” is that she is gay. Ingrid Nilsen is a beauty vlogger that has gained a lot of following over the past couple of years. Personally, I think her videos are incredible and I’ve been watching them for a really long time. Ingrid’s “Coming Out Video” was definitely a surprise to me, but I’ll obviously continue to love and support her. Sharing this information was very courageous of her, as we all know that homosexuality is not always accepted in our society. I think her honesty with herself and with other people is very respectable and I admire her for this.

Ingrid Nilsen is such an inspiration to me and a lot of other people. She is a huge advocate of being yourself and living life to the fullest. She is also an amazing YouTuber who has gained success from her entertaining, yet informative videos. I’ve definitely learned a lot from her. I just wanted to take this time to show my appreciation for the work that she does and sharing part of her story. I definitely recommend subscribing to her channel, because I know that you will absolutely love her.

My First Week Of Summer

Hello, friends! Summer is officially here, and I’m living it up! I did a lot of cool things this past week that I’d like to share with you. For this summer, I encourage you guys to venture out, try new things, and have fun!

Tuesday:

This was my last official day of school. In the evening, I went to a Train, Matt Nathanson, and The Fray concert with my best friend. It was amazing and the music was so good! I would have to say my favorite performer was Train. Their music was amazing and they really got involved with the audience. It was a great way to kick off the summer!

Wednesday:

I got my hair cut on Wednesday! My hair is officially in a long bob and I absolutely love it! It’s a lot easier to take care of and keeps me cool in the heat. On Wednesday, I also went to a pool party with some of my friends, which was a ton of fun. It was really nice to be able to hang out with them.

Thursday:

On Thursday, I went to the Shakey Graves concert with my best friend, Savannah. Shakey Graves is a folk rock singer that I’ve been listening to since the fall. He’s really talented and I love his music. The opening act was Carson McHone and her band, which performed really great music. The bass player for Carson was so funny! He would do all these crazy dance moves on stage, and it was amazing. I loved listening to both bands play, despite the crazy loud volume at which they were playing. Savannah and I even got to meet some members of the Carson McHone band! So fun!

Friday:

On Friday, my dad, my sister, and I went to the U.S. Whitewater Center, which is a center that allows you to do all these fun outdoor activities. We went on a zipline, rafted, did stand up paddle boarding, and rock climbed. We were exhausted when we left, but had a great time trying something new.

Saturday:

Saturday was graduation and my friend and I went to go watch one of our best friends graduate. It’s really crazy to think that I’ll never see some of these people again, but I’m so proud of what they’ve accomplished and I know they’ll do great things.

Sunday (Today):

This morning, I went to church with my family. It was actually our pastor’s last service, so it was definitely emotional. A lot of people were crying, including me! I totally lost my marbles. Again, our pastor and his family are going to move on to bigger and better things, and I know that our church and their family will be taken care of by the Lord.

After this emotional service, my best friend, Julia, came over and we watched a movie and hung out! It was great!

I hope you enjoyed this life update! I’ve been having an amazing time this summer and I know that it’s only going to get better.

In a couple days, I’m actually leaving for Governor’s School, which is a program for “intellectually gifted students” (as they say) that gives students the opportunity to live on a college campus for five weeks and study in their field of interest. I’m not sure if I’ll have the opportunity to blog over these next few weeks, but I will try my best to keep you guys informed.

Thank you for all your support and I will talk to you later!
